One of the best things about summer is making home-made whipped cream and eating it over berries or waffles. Delicious!
You might think it odd to find whipped cream on a health-food blog, but let me explain.
I do not believe in eating anything low-fat, low-carb, reduced-sugar or any other combination of "reduced" or "low" or anything like that. Foods whose labels need to make ostentatious claims about health tend to be the most unhealthy and misleading. They are also the ones that have been the most highly processed and therefore are detrimental to your health.
I believe in full-fat foods. Especially when it comes to dairy products, specifically my whipped cream. Is it something you should eat everyday? No. Everything in moderation. But when you have a craving for something sweet, you should enjoy it in all it's full-fat goodness. Because that's how the food was intended to be eaten. Whole foods contain all the proteins, nutrients and chemicals needed to be fully absorbed by your body in the most efficient, healthy way. When food is processed and turned into low-fat, low-carb, reduced-sugar shells of its former self, you make it more difficult for your body to properly absorb the food's nutrients.
So, let's enjoy food in all its goodness! Maybe just a little less of it...:-)
Here is how to make home-made whipped cream:
Buy whipping cream (organic, grass-fed is best)
Pour into a bowl and use a mixer to whip the cream for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy and almost "hard." Add a tiny bit of sugar to sweeten the cream. Whip again and enjoy!
